Adobe Illustrator

Although the idea of sitting in front of my MAC for hours doesn't really appeal to me very much, we have been set a 'how to' brief using Illustrator.
More about the brief will be explained at a later date, but here are some trials.

Student Cuts

A snap I took during the protests outside of Parliament Square.

Mail Arts

Our latest brief was based on 'Mail Arts', which started in the 60's and grew in popularity and peaked as an art form in the early 90's. It so happened as well that our tutor Nigel Bents was very involved with this movement; testing what could be sent and how far the postal service could be stretched.

Following the briefing, I teamed up with Charlie, Jasper and Ana; three good pals on the course, and we did't hang about to start research and chat about ideas. We were all quite excited by the prospects of this new brief.

We were all quite keen on the idea of a real test on the postal service, seeing what was actually possible to send, that would actually arrive the other end! We found a mail artist who introduced the idea of the 'postman's choice'; where a postcard would have two different addresses on it and the postman had to make a decision which it would be sent to...

Along these lines we wanted to produce a similar project where the postman would be tested themselves, and so we came up with the idea of 'postman's trust'... We decided to post 5 pound notes to people in ways that was very revealing, which could easily be taken out of it's envelope or 'container'.

Here are a selection of the 5 pound notes produced, and us posting them!
Wether they arrive or not will shortly be uploaded!

Some Things I'm Liking At The Mo.

I thought I would just post a selection of things I find interesting and nice at the moment...

...I'm particularly fond of 'Roots Manuvas' album cover 'Slime and Reason'.

Shrine trials...

Paint, explosives and a lot of plastic sheets...

Shrine

Following a presentation I gave to the class on racing, I was paired up with Francois and action painting.
We had to produce a 'shrine' in the loosest sense of the word.
We had a lot of fun with the process on this project; exploding paint balloons with 'french bangers' in a studio. We have some pretty funny footage which is soon to be uploaded of the first attempts of this, but for now, here is the final outcome of the 4 week project.
